Dance of the Mirlitons

... is better (if not always) known in English as the Dance of the Reed Flutes. It comes (as you probably know) from The Nutcracker. But like the rest of the Nutcracker Suite, it is often rendered in French (as for example on my 1987 recording by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir George Solti) as Danse des Mirlitons.

The word mirliton is essentially French, but does appear in English dictionaries to mean a toy whistle or pipe – or a kazoo.

However ... the piece of music in question is undeniably best known today as Everyone's a Fruit and Nut Case.
